How We Make Our Handmade Resin Skulls
At Shellmon, every resin skull we create is a little work of art — custom-poured right here in Dorset with care, skill, and just a bit of obsession.
Our skulls aren’t churned out by machines. They’re individually handmade to order, using deep-pour techniques and high-quality epoxy resin. Whether you’re after something bold and gothic, sparkly and mysterious, or something truly unique — we layer it, cure it, and polish it by hand.
The Deep Pour Resin Process
Each skull starts with a clear silicone mould and our specialist deep-pour resin. Unlike shallow casting resin (which would crack or overheat), deep-pour resin cures slowly, allowing us to create solid, bubble-free skulls that shine like glass.
We mix the resin with your chosen colours — mica powders, pigments, glitters, metallic flakes — whatever you’ve picked during your order. Then we pour in stages, especially for layered effects or when combining different colours. This gives each skull depth, movement and a marbled, almost hypnotic finish.
Layering for That Custom Look
Some customers want solid, bold colours. Others want a layered look — maybe purple fading into silver, or a black base with gold cracks running through. To get that right, we do separate resin pours with cure time in between. It’s not fast, but it’s the only way to get the look just right.
Depending on the effect, we’ll pour the base colour, wait 12–24 hours, then pour the next layer. It can take days to finish one skull — but it’s worth it when the light hits those layers just right.
Finishing Touches
Once cured, each skull is taken out of its mould and carefully sanded and polished. We trim any edges, check for imperfections, and give it a final polish to really make it pop.
Every skull is one of a kind. No two colour pours ever come out exactly the same — and that’s the beauty of it. Handmade, custom, and uniquely yours.
